De heren van Hubo Initia Hasselt ontvingen in eigen huis Limburg Lions. Een ware Limburgse derby der Lage Landen. Lions staat immers aan de leiding, terwijl Initia op vier punten volgt op de tweede plaats. Initia kon geen beroep doen op Roelants en Bogaerts.
De Limburg Lions lieten in de Alverberg meteen zien dat hun Europese kwalificatie geen toevalstreffer was. Met een moordend tempo en een goed werkende tegenaanval werd ieder Hasselts foutje afgestraft: 1-6 na 7 minuten. Hasselt speelde mak en had enige tijd nodig om aan de Nederlandse defensie te wennen. Enkel Robyns en de terugkerende Verhoeven konden scoren: 6-12 na 23 minuten. Initia kon geen vuist meer maken en moest aan de rust een achterstand van 5 doelpunten toelaten: 9-14.
In de tweede helft sloop een attenter Initia via doelpunten van Pepels en Van Criekinge dichterbij tot 11-14. Na 35 minuten kwam er een eerste keer wat evenwicht in de wedstrijd tot 14-18 na 40 minuten.
Lions kon rekenen op een goede Smits, en zowat de hele Nederlandse kern kwam tot scoren. Hubo Initia Hasselt leed onder de tijdstraffen en kon geen aanspraak meer maken op de overwinning. Verhoeven was nog trefzeker vanop de strafworplijn, maar ook hij kon de zware 21-30 nederlaag niet voorkomen. Limburg Lions was te sterk tegen een mak Hasselt.
Zo zit de laatste BENE-League wedstrijd van 2015 erop. Volgende week staat de kwartfinale van de Beker van België op het programma in Beyne!
