Vanavond staan vanaf 18.30 uur de twee halve finales van het EK in Polen op het programma. Allereerst nemen Noorwegen en Duitsland het tegen elkaar op. Om 20.30 uur is het dan de beurt aan Kroatië en Spanje. Beide wedstrijden zijn live op Ziggo Sport te zien (kanaal 14) en worden voorzien van commentaar door Raymond Koning. Ook zijn de wedstrijden zoals altijd live te volgen via EHF tv.
Noorwegen – Duitsland
Het duel tussen de twee verrassingen van dit EK. De Noren schakelden in de laatste speelronde de grote favoriet Frankrijk uit en plaatsten zich daarmee verrassend voor de halve finales. De jonge Noorse ploeg neemt het daarin op tegen het eveneens jonge Duitsland. De handbalgrootmacht van weleer staat voor het eerst sinds acht jaar weer in een halve finale van een groot toernooi. De ploeg van trainer Dagur Sigurdsson schakelde Denemarken uit in de laatste wedstrijd van de hoofdronde en verbaasde daarmee niet alleen zichzelf, maar ook de rest van de handbalwereld.
Spanje – Kroatië
Spanje is misschien wel de enige van de vier halve finalisten waarvan op voorhand verwacht werd dat ze minimaal tot de halve finale zouden komen. De ervaren ploeg rondom supersterren als Canellas, Tomas en Sterbik spelen al jaren op hoog niveau. Toch ging het allemaal niet vanzelf voor de Spanjaarden. In de laatste hoofdronde partij moest de ploeg alle zeilen bijzetten om het stugge Rusland van zich af te schudden. De Kroaten daarentegen zorgden met hun 14 (!) verschil overwinning op thuisland Polen voor een ware houdini-act en plaatsen zich op de valreep nog voor de laatste vier. De ploeg rondom THW Kiel-speler Duvnjak verpulverde de Polen en zal datzelfde met Spanje willen doen.
Voor de echte handballiefhebber: om 16.00 uur spelen Polen en Zweden om plaats 7 en 8 en om 18.30 uur Frankrijk en Denemarken om plaats 5 en 6. Ook deze wedstrijden zijn te volgen via de livestream van EHF tv.
