Om 20:00 staat in Zwartemeer de ‘Derby van het Noorden’ op het programma. Een confrontatie tussen Hurry-Up en E&O met gematigde belangen, nadat beide Drentse ploegen hun kansrijke positie vorige week verspeelden. Voor vertrekkende Litouwer Gintaras Cibulskis is het wél een extra speciale editie.
“Het wordt zeker geen makkelijke wedstrijd”, opent de markante cirkelloper. “E&O hoopt punten te pakken voor plaatsing voor de BENE-League”. Nadat de rivaal uit Emmen vorige week verloor van Quintus, lijkt een ticket voor de grensoverschrijdende competitie ver weg. Cibulskis en z’n ploeggenoten verloren op hun beurt van Aalsmeer en lijken de finale om het landskampioenschap uit hun hoofd te kunnen zetten.
Overladen met berichtjes
“Een derby is altijd anders”, vertelt ‘De Beer van Zwartemeer’, zoals de bijnaam van de Litouwer luid in Zuidoost Drenthe. “E&O heeft een hele jonge ploeg. Geef ze de tijd. Kijken we over een paar jaar weer”. Publiekslieveling Cibulskis zal de groei van E&O niet meer van dichtbij meemaken. Vorige week maakte de club bekend niet door te gaan met de sympathieke Noord-Europeaan. “Dat is sport”, relativeert hij. “Heb heel veel reacties gekregen. Berichtjes op m’n telefoon en op Facebook. Dat voelde goed”.
Voor een nieuwe reportage uit de handbalwereld zocht Handbal Inside Cibulskis en z’n landgenoten Trainavicius en Bernatavicius op in Zwartemeer. Het resultaat is in de loop van volgende week te zien op de website. Eerst gaat de ‘Beer van Zwartemeer’ voor de laatste keer genieten van de handbalderby tussen Hurry-Up en E&O. In een uitverkochte sporthal De Eendracht.
