PETER LOTMAN – Den Haag – Bart de Koning, trainer/coach van de handballers van de Wings Hermes Combinatie (WHC), heeft besloten de Haagse club aan het einde van het seizoen te verlaten. De 34-jarige oefenmeester is dan vijf jaar bij WHC werkzaam geweest.
Ondanks dat het zijn eerste club was als hoofdtrainer heeft De Koning prima resultaten geboekt met het eerste mannenteam van de fusieclub. Hij werd kampioen van de tweede divisie en promoveerde na een sterk seizoen naar de op een na hoogste afdeling. Vorig jaar deed WHC als periodekampioen tot het einde mee in de strijd om een plaats in de eredivisie.
Ondanks het vertrek van een aantal basisspelers is De Koning met zijn team ook deze jaargang weer een sterke subtopper in de eerste divisie. De Koning: ,,We hebben een paar mooie jaren gedraaid. Het is een geweldige groep mannen. De meeste spelers zijn ook al vijf jaar bij elkaar. Het handbal werd stukje bij beetje steeds beter en volwassener. Daarom was het een lastige beslissing om weg te gaan.”
,,Maar ik ben wel toe aan een nieuwe uitdaging. Ook voor de groep is het goed als iemand komt die er met andere ogen naar kijkt en nieuwe ideeën heeft. Ik heb nog geen nieuwe club, maar het lijkt me leuk om ergens anders aan de slag te gaan. Ik denk dat ik inmiddels heb laten zien dat ik wat kan als trainer en coach. Mocht er niets op mijn pad komen, is dat ook prima. Met Wesley Hage en Marc Klein werken we samen met nog een aantal jonge trainers met veel energie aan de Handbalschool Haaglanden. Wekelijks krijgen meer dan 150 kinderen daar extra trainingen op allerlei niveaus. Dat geeft veel voldoening. Trainen en coachen is prachtig om te doen. Nieuwe uitdagingen neem ik dus zeker in overweging.”

Today, I went to the beach front with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is totally off topic but I had to tell someone!
