Aan het eind van de middag staat in Budapest de finale van de Women’s EHF Champions League op het programma. In de uitverkochte Laszlo Papp Arena (12.500 toeschouwers) nemen het Hongaarse Györ en het Roemeens Bucuresti het tegen elkaar op.
Het Györ van Oranje-internationals Nycke Groot en Yvette Broch won gister in een extreem spannende thriller van Budocnost uit Montenegro (21-20) en plaatste zich zo voor de finale. In de andere halve finale won Bucuresti iets eenvoudiger van Vardar uit Macedonië: 27-21.
Groot en Broch speelde allebei een belangrijke rol in de overwinning van hun ploeg. Na de finale van het WK staan de beide sterkhouders dus opnieuw in de finale van één van de grootste handbaltoernooien ter wereld. Het zou voor beide internationals voor het eerst zijn dat zij de Champions League op hun naam schrijven, een historische prestatie.
