De Oranje heren zijn er vanmiddag niet in geslaagd hun eerste oefenwedstrijd in en tegen Rusland te winnen. In Moskou kon de formatie van Joop Fiege het eerste kwartier goed bijblijven. In het verdere verloop van de wedstrijd waren de Russen absoluut de betere ploeg. De wedstrijd eindigde in 35 – 28 na een 17 – 13 ruststand.
Nederland begon sterk aan de wedstrijd. De Russen stonden weliswaar telkens voor maar Nederland leek geen moeite te hebben om aan te haken. Na 15 minuten spelen kwam de formatie van Joop Fiege zelfs even voor (8 – 9). In het tweede gedeelte van de eerste helft lag het initiatief eigenlijk volledig bij de Russen. Zij bouwde hun marge in deze fase uit naar vier punten bij rust (17 – 13).
In de tweede helft ging Rusland gewoon verder waar het gebleven was en bouwde de marge opnieuw uit (21 – 15). Nederland heeft dan even de kans om terug te komen tot vier punten, maar verzuimde door een penalty te missen.
In het verdere verloop van de tweede helft bleef het verschil telkens steken rond de 6 punten in het voordeel van Rusland. De wedstrijd eindigde in 35 – 28.
Morgen speelt Oranje om 13:00 uur zijn volgende wedstrijd. Dan is Wit – Rusland de tegenstander. De wedstrijd is te volgen via de livestream.
